Plant‐wide Steam Trap Survey and Air Leak Survey:
- Evaluation of correct operation of steam traps.
- Evaluation of correct steam trap selection for each application.
- Complete survey report providing operational status of each trap, recommendations for the most appropriate trap type for best application performance, estimate of steam loss from failed traps and recommended replacement traps.
- All identified traps will use existing tags or if missing a new metal tag will be installed at no charge.
- All steam trap testing is completed using the UE System Model 2000 intrinsically safe or Model 3000 General Purpose ultrasonic device. The FLIR Model E8-EX General Purpose thermal imaging camera to quickly identify leak location.
- All identified traps will show location, operational condition, make and model, steam loss and dollar loss.
- All air leaks will have pictures using FLIR's Si124-LD General Purpose acoustic imaging camera to quickly identify leak location.
- Each air leak will have a picture to show location, dB of leak, compressed air loss and dollar loss.
Execution of the Steam Trap Survey and Air Leak Survey:
- The steam trap survey and air leak survey will be conducted using ultrasonic leak detection equipment. A non‐contact infrared imager will be used during the steam trap survey to help identify cold spots.
- Site will provide a guide that is familiar with the steam and air system to help tester locate steam traps and provide accurate descriptions of locations and detailed information about the area. This will help site personnel locate areas quickly to make repairs listed on the survey. It is important that the locations and application information be as accurate as possible, and the descriptions be in terms that recognized by site personnel.
- Site will provide access to all steam traps and air using equipment. This may include providing ladders, man lifts, or anything else needed to assist tester in performing survey.
- Steam traps that are cold or not in use will be tagged and recorded as cold on our survey report unless they are on drip legs. If drip leg steam trap is cold then it is tagged and recorded as failed closed.
- Site personnel will ensure that steam and air is on (live) in all areas to be tested.
- Steam trap survey reporting will be in Access format. The air leak survey reporting will be in PDF format.
